A series of five Individual Stableford Qualifying Competitions with the best three scores to count, was held over a three-week period on the Pestana Alto Golf Course, which this year is probably THE most improved golf course in the central Algarve.
Event organiser, Greg Morelli, paid tribute to the hard-working groundstaff who had maintained the golf course in such fantastic condition over the whole series of games, in this year’s July Cup. The competition is open to everyone with a bona fide golf handicap and Greg thanked the 80 participants who had taken part in this year’s event. Many of those who played in the final round today, stayed to enjoy a light lunch and eagerly await the presentation.
In first place, with a magnificent score of 109 Stableford points, 33, 38 and 38 was Dave Hackett, a 7-handicap golfer, shown here being presented with the Champions Trophy and 120 euros worth of Pestana vouchers.
In second place with a score of 107 Stableford points, 36, 36 and 35 was Ray Dillon, a 21 handicap golfer, who received 80 euros worth of Pestana vouchers.
In third place with a score of 104 Stableford points, 34, 34 and 36 was local, ex-professional and Portuguese national footballer, Amilcar Fonseca, an 8-handicap golfer, who received 40 euros worth of Pestana vouchers.
In fourth place with a score of 100 Stableford points, 33, 31 and 36 was Barrington (Baz) Thompson, a 14-handicap golfer who received 20 euros worth of Pestana vouchers.
