The UK property site Rightmove has revealed the most popular hotspots with British buyers who are looking to buy a home in the Algarve. The site found that the number of house-hunters contacting estate agents in Portugal increased by almost 40% last month.

While the Algarve has long been one of the country's most popular areas to buy a home, Rightmove pinpointed the three most sought-after destinations for British investors: Vilamoura, Albufeira and Carvoeiro.

Carvoeiro
With golden cliffs, pretty coves and white-washed houses, Carvoeiro is the third most popular destination for a holiday home. Once a traditional fishing village, the resort still maintains the same charm that has been drawing British buyers since the 1960s.

Albufeira
Second on the list is Albufeira, known for its beautiful beaches, bustling nightlife and waterfront promenade. Apartments are the most popular property type for a holiday home in this area, which is one of the country's busiest seaside resorts.

Vilamoura
According to the property site, Vilamoura is the most popular destination for buyers. Located close to Albufeira and Almancil, the coastal resort is known for its award-winning marina, sandy beaches, golf courses and casino.
