Carvoeiro
The picture-perfect beachside town of Carvoeiro really has everything, not least some of the leading golf courses for all levels of play. Both run by Pestana, Gramacho and Vale da Pinta offer championship courses in some of the most stunning surroundings. There's also Vale do Milho, a scaled-down version of a full-sized course offering nine holes and a friendly clubhouse.

Lagos
Towards the more rugged Western Algarve are some of the most highly recommended golf courses in the south of Portugal. From the sublime Espiche Golf Course and the excellent Palmares and its three returning nine-hole loops, to the championship course in the family-friendly resort of Boavista, the Lagos area is a winner for avid golfers.

Vilamoura
There's no shortage of golf courses at Vilamoura – the hard part is choosing one of the resort's six courses. As well as the Laguna, Millennium, Old Course, Pinhal, Victoria and Vila Sol courses, the area also offers other excellent facilities, such as sports centres, a casino and an award-winning marina.
