Part of the appeal of the Portuguese lifestyle is lounging by the pool on a hot summer's day. But depending on which area of the country you're visiting or looking to buy a second home, a swimming pool can be rare and it can certainly hike up the price tag.

The good news is that a significant number of Algarve properties boast a private or communal swimming pool, and the price difference between homes with and without a pool isn't that significant.

The latest data from idealista shows that almost 25% of houses in the Algarve have a pool. Meanwhile, these properties are just 16.9% more expensive than those without. This is a stark contrast with the national average.

The analysis found that only 11.2% of the properties listed in Portugal have a pool and, on average, they're 61% more expensive than those without. The biggest difference was found to be in Évora, with an 86% difference between homes with a pool and those without.

The price difference was also significant in Setúbal (85.7%), Lisbon (65.4%) and Castelo Branco (55.3%). In terms of supply, Funchal has the most properties with a pool (43.9%), followed by the Faro district (23.8%).
