Away from the stunning beaches and championship golf courses the Algarve offers an amazing wealth of beautiful natural landscapes and these are being highlighted during the annual Algarve Nature Week, taking place across the region between April 13th and 22nd.
This is the fourth time that the initiative has been run in the Algarve and the theme this year is “One thousand emotions”. In total there will be almost 70 different businesses and entities involved in the project which aims to help visitors, residents and tourists discover the natural environment in the Algarve.
Activities such as cycling, climbing, hiking, diving, surfing, horse riding, bird watching and even stand-up paddling are all part of the programme of activities taking place across the Algarve over the wo days of the event.
The rise in nature tourism in the Algarve has been one of the factors used to help combat seasonality in the region, with visitors encouraged to come to the Algarve not only during the summer season, but throughout the year to enjoy the mild weather and beautiful natural landscapes.
President of the Algarve Tourism Board, Desidério Silva said: “Nature tourism has been experiencing rapid growth over the past few decades and is one of the reasons for our continued commitment to this form of tourism product in the region. European Nature Week, an Algarve tourism company, has returned with the Algarve Nature Week and it is hoped that the initiative will help to motivate more Algarve visitors to interact with nature while staying in the region.”
Algarve Nature Week is being launched with a special open day in Lagos on April 13th with entertainment and open air activities taking place between 9.30am and 5.30pm in the Praça do Infante and Jardim da Constituição with activities including a climbing wall and slide, archery, bikes and other sporting activities. Later that day there will also be a sunset walk along the stunning Ponte da Piedade from 6pm. This activity is open to the entire family and simply requires pre registration until April 12th by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots.
